One of the joys of the fall season arriving is getting to enjoy the upcoming holidays, such as Halloween. Without a doubt one of the most cherished rituals surrounding Halloween is carving pumpkins to make Jack-o-Lanterns for display to the entire neighborhood.

If you are a big Halloween enthusiast you know that the crop of  pumpkins that was grown for this years creepy Halloween celebrations has been stunted by all the rain in the northeast part of the country during the spring and early summer months. This may have caused a shortage of good sized pumpkins for you and your kids to make halloween decorations from.

Carving Jack-o-Lanterns was one of the most fun thing i use to do as a young boy. Making goulish faces and cutting out the top of the pumpkin to place a candle in the middle. Then placing your Jack-o-Lantern on a  window sill or out on the front porch to give my house that creepy feeling for halloween.

Imagine having a pumpkin that weighs over 1,500 pounds to carve a Jack-o-Lantern out of ? Despite all the rain that fell during the spring and early summer months. Ron Wallace, winner of the 13 annual Rhode Island Southern New England Giant Pumpkin Growers Champion. Broke the Guinness world record for the heaviest pumpkin grown in the world with a pumpkin weighing 1,502 pounds.

Now you may not need a pumpkin that large to decorate your Halloween landscape. But all of the same principles apply to planting and growing pumpkins. Ron Wallace says "Pumpkin growing is a lot of work and you just have to stick with it"
